Hockey SA Update - 15 May

Published Fri 15 May 2020

On behalf of the Hockey SA Board & Management we would like to provide the following update.

Hockey SA have resolved reductions to the 2020 Registration Fees for all participants and furthermore have confirmed Team Entry Fees reductions for clubs entering teams into the 2020 Adelaide competition season.

In addition to this Hockey SA have developed a set of Guidelines to provide all participants, coaches, umpires, administrators and supporters with guidance on how to return to training within the guidelines provided by the SA Government.  Furthermore, we are developing our guidelines including potential changes to rules and regulations with regards to returning to match play in the next month.

We encourage you to take the time to read the Guidelines to familiarise yourself with them as you plan to return to the training track in the coming weeks.

Below are the details regarding the 2020 reduction in Individual Registration Fees – Hockey SA

Senior Fees have been reduced by 20% from $74.59 to $59.67.

Junior Fees have been reduced by 20% from $29.69 to $23.75.

Hockey SA have taken the following into considerations when arriving at the final decision to reduce affiliation fees;

  • Hockey SA’s social responsibility to provide financial relief where possible for members to enable them to return to hockey.
  • The need to maintain current staffing levels at the head office (including 4 Full Time staff in Adelaide) and Shared Services (CEO and Finance) with Hockey Victoria to manage operations of Hockey SA for the remainder of 2020; and the ongoing fixed costs associated with administering our sport.
  • The services which have been provided by Hockey SA to the wider community during 2020 up to and including May and the services that are planned to be provided until to the end of 2020.

Hockey Australia Levy & Insurance

It is important to note that the Hockey SA’s fee is only one component of the overall Individual Registration fee for the participants.  Hockey Australia have confirmed that there will be no reduction to their individual levies and the insurance fee for 2020.

The below table provides a breakdown on the Hockey SA discounted fees and the HA Fees (including insurance) per category of players.

Players who have already registered in 2020

Hockey SA are currently working with Hockey Australia and the other Member States and Territories to identify the most practical approach to refunding or crediting those SA members who have already registered in 2020 and made payment for the initial Hockey SA registration fee.  Once we have clarity regarding this, we will advise our members and individuals.  Rest assured if you have registered already, we will provide you with fee relief via either method once this is resolved.

Registrations are now open.

We encourage all players who have returned to training this week and plan to return to training and play in 2020 to register today.  This will ensure you are appropriately covered by insurance and will also maintain an official record of members if required for public health at this time.

2020 Competition Structures

Hockey SA has resolved the Competition Structures for both a 3-month & 2-month competition in 2020.

To view the Competition Structure Outlines, please view the document at the bottom of this article

We would like to thank all the players who completed the competition survey and those who engaged in our player and coach forums in the past few week.  This has allowed us to conclude a set of competition structures in these uncertain times which meet the vast majority of the views of the players and administrators.

Hockey SA are confident of being able to conduct a 3-month competition as described in the summary and this is Hockey SA’s priority at this stage.  Our thinking is that the competition will commence in late June, early July 2020.

Team Entry Fees which are charged to your clubs for both a 3-month (14 match/approximate) and 2-month (9 match/approximate) competitions for 2020 have been communicated with your clubs.

Hockey SA have reduced the team entry fees by 25% (3-month) and 50% (2 month) respectfully and this reduction has been applied pro rata based on the season length to be realised under each scenario in 2020.

We have also provided flexibility with regards to payment of team entry fees for the clubs to allow clubs to work with members to pay for their club fees in a flexible manner if required.

Open mid-week competition – new competition

From mid-July (after the school holidays) Hockey SA will be running a mid-week (Wednesday) open age Men’s & Women’s competition.  These two competitions will be offered to provide the following;

  • Flexibility to players and clubs to provide competition for their members who have work or family commitments on weekends and are unable to play regularly.
  • An opportunity for open age Men and Women with an opportunity to play twice a week (like what many other sports offer).
  • Encourage past players back to the sport by providing more opportunities to participate in hockey.

The competition will be run for only 9 weeks as a pilot in term 3.  Hockey SA will take entries for a summer competition in term 4.

In closing we wish the wider South Australian Hockey Community all the best in the coming weeks as you all return to our great game.
