Hockey SA seek applicants for new CEO

Hockey South Australia is the peak body representing the game of hockey in South Australia.  Hockey SA’s Strategic Agenda includes the broader ambition to be Stronger Together through the provision of state-wide recruitment and retention activities, quality competitions and events and strong commercial performance through the Adelaide Fire.  Based at MATE Stadium Hockey SA is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the State Hockey Centre at Gepps Cross.   

Hockey SA is made up from metropolitan and regional associations and represents close to 6,500 registered players, coaches and officials. Hockey SA members range from the age of 5 – 75 with strong representation across age, gender and all abilities.

Reporting to the Hockey South Australia Board of Directors, the CEO will lead all aspects of the organisation and its people. As a result of your leadership, clear vision and direction you will build a strong culture and drive the effective delivery of strategic and operational plans, establishing a platform for ongoing development of our people, the Affiliates, the game and the organisation into the future. 

The core accountabilities for the CEO include:

  • Provide leadership to the South Australian Hockey Community and Hockey SA team and build a culture that lives the core values.
  • Lead South Australian Hockey Association Inc to deliver on the Strategic Plan in accordance with the objectives of the Constitution, Hockey Australia Roles and Responsibilities Guiding Principles and ensure compliance with relevant legislative requirements.
  • Engage members, clubs and associations by developing and delivery of hockey competitions, events, and programmes to grow and develop the sport in South Australia.
  • Develop strategies and pathways for talented athletes to progress to National identification.
  • Build the Adelaide Fire franchise to create new revenue streams and to grow participation and fans.
  • Build strong working relationships with core stakeholders; Hockey Australia and South Australian Government, to ensure that HSA has visibility and influence in funding and strategic decisions.

You are / We are seeking / Role Requirements

  • Experience in change management or leading cultural transformation
  • Demonstrated evidence of developing and delivering programmes to provide member-centric experiences through core business activities.
  • Past experience as a CEO / senior leader or aspiring leader with relevant sector experience.
  • Understanding of the challenges, opportunities and relevant legislation for a State Sports Organisation
  • Entrepreneurial and commercial thinker with experience building new revenue stream or commercial partnerships
  • Executive presence and ability to communicate and influence up and down.
  • Energetic, a passion for community sport, hands-on and ready to deliver on a growth opportunity.

Hockey South Australia's CEO must be a dynamic, engaging and empathetic leader able to consolidate the new programs implemented over the past 18 months and ready to deliver on a growth opportunity.   

An entrepreneurial and commercial thinker with experience building new revenue streams or commercial partnerships is strongly desired.  Coupled with an appetite to get their hands dirty to achieve against the aspirational Stronger Together strategy. 

This role will be supported by an experienced ‘Strategic Mentor’ who will support the incumbent CEO and the Hockey SA Board in navigating the ongoing development of the organisation. The Strategic Mentor has over 10 years CEO/Senior Leadership experience in State & National Sporting Organisations.
