Hockey SA has zero tolerance of Child Harm. Hockey SA will provide child safe environments in line with the provision of the Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017.
- Hockey SA will actively work to listen to, respect and empower children, and to encourage their participation in Hockey;
- Has established policies and procedures that seek to protect Children from harm, and will take all allegations and concerns very seriously and will respond to them consistently, in line with relevant policies and procedures.
- Is committed to regularly training and educating our Staff and Volunteers about Child Harm risks.
- Is committed to educating our member Clubs & Association about the importance of child safety practices, policies and processes.

Department of Human Services - Working with Children Check
A Working with Children Check is an assessment of whether a person poses an unacceptable risk to children. As part of the process, the Screening Unit will look at criminal history, child protection information and other information.
PLEASE NOTE - Hockey SA is no longer submitting Working with Children Check applications on behalf of clubs / associations and individuals. This process is now required to be submitted by the requesting club / association, or by the individual themselves. Applications can be submittied via the DHS website (red button below).

Child Safety Courses
Sport SA offer Child Safe Officer Training courses, both online and face-to-face.
A Child Safe Officer at your club is vital to promote the message that keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility. All clubs should be working to ensure everyone is aware of the club's policies and procedures to support this goal.
National Redress Scheme
The National Redress Scheme was created in response to recommendations by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
The Scheme provides eligible people with access to the following three things -
- counselling
- a redress payment, and
- a direct personal response from an institution.

Reporting
If a person is concerned about an immediate risk to a Child’s safety, the person must phone SA Police on “000” as soon as practicable.
If a person suspects that a child is at risk of, or being, harmed, the person may report the belief to Hockey SA, who will guide you through the next steps in addressing your concerns.
